Out and About

"Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment." - Montessori
South Angle Farm Park Visits

South Angle Farm Park is a favourite for Tiny Footprint!

Not far from Newmarket, we often take children over to see and pet the animals.

We feed the alpacas, pigs, chickens, geese and ducks with special food that is available to us from the farm shop and we are usually lucky enough to time our visits to coincide with the animal encounters that take place regularly.

The children have been able to hold spiders, mini beasts, lizards and snakes and are always ready to hear all about their habits, habitats and quirky personalities!

The farm is always a big hit and ties in with lots of learning topics as there is lots to do, see, touch, feel, smell and think about!

Woodland and Forest Outings

The children also regularly visit woodlands and Forests in the local area. These visits form the basis of the 'Barefoot and Balanced' sessions, out door learning activities and enable us all to have a deeper connection with the environment and nature.

We often all go altogether but smaller groups also attend on their own, to complete more focused activities such as wood whittling, willow crown making, building bug hotels or completing monthly challenges.

The babies also enjoy 'forest bathing' and being able to explore outdoors - using all of their senses to enhance their creativity, promote wellbeing and stimulate their imagination.

Exploring the National Trust and Nowton Park

We like to get out and about as much as possible and often visit The National Trust’s Anglesey Abbey, Ickworth House gardens and park and places such as Nowton Park with the children.

This might include a walk through the walled garden, an Easter egg hunt, watching for approx. 1000 spring lambs that are born every year at Ickworth, bouncing around the estate, taking in the wildlife in the parklands, running through the maze at Nowton or bug hunting in the forest.

Hoe Fen at Anglesey gives the children a birds eye view from the giant two storey Lime Tree Lookout Treehouse. There is also a Secret Garden to discover, a Story Telling Circle, hammocks in the Wild Play Area along with den building or creating a wild art masterpiece.
